About Silks & Quilts and Betty Leppin

Why Does Betty Paint and Quilt?

Since she was 9, Betty has been fascinated with textiles - - how they feel, drape, look, and burn! After getting a Bachelor's degree in textiles she worked in a lab evaluating textiles for performance properties.

After completing her Masters Degree in Not-for-Profit Management, Betty worked for a nonprofit in Washington DC for a decade. It was then that Betty returned to textiles in a creative way. She found silk painting reduced job-related stress and the medium was quite forgiving, inspiring and stress-free! What first started as a hobby has turned into Betty's full-time passion. She has attended several national workshops learning traditional and nontraditional silk painting techniques from fellow artists and she enjoys teaching silk painting to beginners. Betty is a member of Silk Painters International.

While Betty finds joy in silk painting, she also enjoys the slower deliberate rhythm of quilting. Although Betty has been sewing all her life, she has focused on quilt construction in the past decade. Betty's love of color, composition, and technical details are apparent in her creations.
